New Year, Same Old Problems

New Year, Same Old Problems

January 8, 2019

Happy New Year! We at Mindspace hope you are looking forward to an amazing and prosperous 2019.

Now that the calendar has officially turned, you’ve received your new budget, and likely a list of aggressive goals for the year. It may be a new year, but it still comes with many of the same challenges as last year. For the Learning and Development industry, in fact, some of those challenges date back to 2009 (dare we say 1999 in some cases?). While there is more progress and there are better tools than ever before, the conversation still outpaces adoption. As long as that holds true, necessary evolution remains stifled.

Like you, we sometimes leverage various “rapid authoring tools” for some of the eLearning courses we create. Before the holidays, I opened an email from one of those authoring tools we use most often. This email announced a new product release (yay!). It touted the ability of administrators to now “manage different groups” of users. Seriously? To be fair, several of the other features were marked upgrades -- but even those have been available in do-it-yourself website builders for several years.

It’s 2019, folks!

As I finished reading the list of “features”, I found myself thinking, “I didn’t realize you couldn’t do that…”

In 2019, it’s ok to think that the tools and products you use to develop and present training should have “modern” functionality. It’s ok to want tools that are flexible and customizable to your business needs. And it’s more than ok to demand a little innovation out of the vendors you choose to work with.

At Mindspace, when we’re presented with a project, we work with our clients (and even our prospects) to outline all of the options available to them. We pride ourselves in presenting designs, tools, and technologies you can both understand and actually implement.

Speaking of technology, you’ll be hearing a lot more about our Fathom Learning Platform in the coming months. Fathom has already helped us craft innovative solutions for some of the largest (and some of the smallest) companies in the world. These solutions go well beyond traditional and tired LMS functions. We’ll also be introducing new tools, and even making innovative content available for your learners. And yes, that content will be mobile-ready and it can live in any LMS… or not, if you’re so bold.
